UFC light heavyweight champ Rashad Evans reups with new UFC deal
Current UFC light heavyweight champion and "The Ultimate Fighter 2" heavyweight winner Rashad Evans has signed a new long-term deal with the UFC.
Terms of the deal, including financial details and the length of the contract, were not disclosed.
The contract was first reported by Fighter's Only, and MMAjunkie.com (http://www.mmajunkie.com) was told by a source close to the Team Jackson fighter that Evans' deal will immediately go into effect and replace his old contract.
Evans, who recently defeated Forrest Griffin to win the 205-pound title at UFC 92, was still competing on the contract he signed prior to the TUF2 Finale in 2005. He most recently scored a reported base pay of $130,00 (which included a $65,000 win bonus) for his victory over Griffin in December.
Evans, one of the sport's undefeated A-level fighters, is now 13-0-1 overall and 8-0-1 in the UFC.
The 29-year-old is currently awaiting the outcome of this weekend's UFC 96 main event between Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Keith Jardine, If victorious Jackson is expected to get the next title shot this summer. However, if Jackson loses, undefeated Lyoto Machida will most likely get the next shot at Evans' belt.
Evans, a former Michigan State wrestler who first joined the UFC after "TUF2," has defeated the likes of Chuck Liddell, Michael Bisping and Stephan Bonnar during his five-year MMA career. Since a streak of five decision victories (two via split decision and one via majority decision) from 2004 to 2006, Evans has four stoppages in his past five wins.

A planned rematch between Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir for UFC 98 on May 23 that would have unified Lesnar’s UFC heavyweight title and Mir’s interim UFC heavyweight has been canceled.
Multiple sources have confirmed to FiveOuncesOfPain.com that the UFC was recently informed by Mir’s camp that he has been unable to train recently due to a back injury that could require surgery.
There is no word as to whether Lesnar will remain on the card against a new opponent or if he will be taken off the card entirely.
