Adorable Rubi NEWSIt didn’t take long before the experiment of streaming live matches on Terra.com.mx on Sunday afternoons had some issues as yesterday during the show at Arena Coliseo they lost the picture from the feed and had to give it up until next week. Maybe it was an Arena Coliseo problem we will find out since they were in Arena Mexico last week and had no issues.
Rubi Rubacalba also known as Adorable Rubi passed away this weekend at the age of 80 leaving behind a legacy of being one of the greatest exotico wrestlers of all-time. Rubi based his character after the pioneer of the exotico style in Dizzy Gardenia and along with his partners El Bello Greco & Sergio el Hermoso they formed a dominant trio called La Ola Lila where they tore up Mexico throughout the 1970′s. Rubi was clearly the star of the team and had the most singles success as he defeated Ciclon Veloz Jr. on 12/14/73 in Mexico City for the Mexican National Middleweight Title holding it for 196 days before losing it to the legendary El Anibal on 6/28/74 in Mexico City. Rubi would soon move up in class and on 2/27/76 he took the crown jewel of CMLL at the time which was the NWA Lt. Heavyweight Title from the legendary Dr. Wagner in Mexico City and turned away numerous challengers holding the title for 231 days before finally losing it to Carlos Plata on 7/17/76 in Mexico City. As time went on Rubi mainly was a trios wrestler but still had singles success even late in his career as he defeated the legendary Angel Blanco for the Mexican National Cruiserweight Title on 10/7/84 in Mexico City which was fairly new at that time and held that title for an astounding 747 days before losing it to Charro de Jalisco in Mexico City on 10/24/86 and it wasn’t too long after that that he winded down his career with his last big match taking place in May 1989 where he would lose his hair to Perro Aguayo at Arena Naucalpan.
